Today Gerlinde cooks.
Here in Greece, a soup is not just cooked, but according to local tradition lots of smaller and larger starters, entremets, salads, vegetables, stuffed, baked, and pickled foods are served.
Gerlinde originally is from Germany. She´s been living on Tinos for 20 years. She resides in a beautiful, big, house in the style of the traditional architecture of the Cycladic Islands: Cubic structures interlaced in each other; with terraces and stairs painted white; with azure-coloured window frames and shutters. The house is surrounded by a large garden, where Gerlinde cultivates her own herbs and vegetables. Two dogs and three cats share the house and garden without having too many territorial problems. One part of the house is rented out to guests. This evening a couple from Germany, who are guests are there as well as Gerlinde’s parents and a German lady friend, who settled on Tinos for many years ago.
For a while Yorgos is the only Greek in the group. Later Nikoletta and her husband join, so eventually it is a mixed Greek-German soup evening, rounded out by Gerlinde’s onion soup, vegetable casserole au gratin, a wonderful poppy-seed cake and many other Mezedes.
