After breakfast we leave for a place called Birthälm. This inconspicious village in the midst of a fructuous hilly landscape is known for its church castle. The hall church, built on the ruines of an early gothic basilica is one of the most imposing monuments of Transylvania. The fortified church is surrounded by 3 curtain walls and features 9 defence towers and 9 bastions in total. Inside there is a mediaeval winged altar with 28 pre-reformatory plates. Today you would regard by no means, that the village had been bishop's see for 300 years and once had more residents than Schäßburg and Mediasch, which are medium large provincial towns now.
On the road from Sighisoara to Medias, when turning into a small side valley of the big Kokel direction Birthälm, one feels transported into a rural world long ago, without stress, untouched by modern life style and in strange contrast to the monumental church.
Actually, Csaba has planned to cook the soup in Birthälm at the house of the priest, but he was unable to get him on the phone. Thats why we decided to come here and search for the priest at a venture. We find out that the priest is only once a week in birthälm, because he cares for more than one community. I get the number of his mobile phone and call him to talk about the project and ask him to cook a soup. The friendly man is pleased by the project and would have been willing to cook, if he only had been able to return in good time.
Our friend Csaba - at that time staying in warsaw , about thousand miles from Birthälm - cares for alternative places to cook the soup, whereby he makes a great, incomparable contribution to the project, not to be overlooked, with the proactive support of Eva.
So, after a short stay in the picturesque old city of Schäßburg, we return to Odorheiu to bring the soup to Eva's aunt, who is willing without ado to prepare a soup.
