Quantities are for approx. 3,5l soup.

butter to roast
125g chickpeas (soaked overnight)
100g red lentils
1kg tomatoes, peeled and roughly chopped
2 onions finely chopped
300g lamb meat cut into small chunks
2 handsful of fine noodles
optionally, I use lots of it!:
fresh coriander
fresh parsley
curcuma
cinnamon
salt/pepper
lemon juice

first boil the chickpeas.
roast onions, meat, curcuma, cinnamon, coriander and parsley gently in butter. add tomatoes and saute for some minutes. add chickpeas and lentils, pour in water (here also the jahressuppe). simmer until tender and season with salt and pepper. shortly before end of cooking time add the fine soup noodles.
every eater may drizzle some lemon juice over ones plate.

the harira in maroc is the lenten food at ramadan. thereto they serve boiled eggs with salt and curcuma, date fruits and chebbaika a fried honey dripping dessert, delicious and luxurious.
eat after dusk!
